May 30, cancer patients and their support groups met to strategically discuss how to collaborate more effectively in the future.

The meeting began with a discussion group “The role of civil society in cancer control”, where Rain Laane (Health Fund), Made Bambus (Ministry of Social Affairs), Lenne-Triin Kõrgvee (SA Tartu University Hospital Cancer Center) and Silja Elunurm (Health Founders Estonia) took part in the discussion. The discussion group was led by Kristel Leif (NGO Onklooogika).

The second half of the day was spent practically, discussing what is going well today and what could be better in the future, and how to implement it.

“Coordinated cooperation leads to faster and better results,” is convinced by Mari-Leen Pärn, the head of the ESTCAN community and the main organizer of the event. “Today, it is clear that early detection and treatment of cancer can save many lives. It is also important that cancer patients and their loved ones do not feel alone with a cancer diagnosis – help and support are actually available at every step. In general, there is still much to be done in Estonia to make the lives of cancer patients and their loved ones more supported, and the Cancer Control Network is working on this every day.”

The next similar event is planned for the fall. Stay tuned!
